Celebrate Connection through an exploration of spices!

Each holiday season, our creators curate recipes, art, and stories around a theme that feels resonant to our community. In 2023, we chose to reflect on connection and celebrate all the ways that fermentation and our practice connects us, particularly through the use of spices. 

Spices tie to world together in flavor, and are uniquely connected to memory and culture. Spices also have a rough history (and current story) when the places where they are found are not respected in the pursuit of harvesting spices, and when the people who belong to that place are not respected or honored. 

Reflecting on the cozy and warm feelings that spices bring to us, as well as the not so comfortable truths that spices remind us of allows us to contemplate what true connection feels like, tastes like, and smells like.
